The Lifestyles Recovery Center Story
Lifstyles Recovery Center Inc. was only a dream a few years ago...
Eighteen years ago Karolyn London was addicted to drugs and alcohol and decided to turn her life around. She sought help in the northern part of San Luis Obispo County, but found none. Determined to make a change, with great difficulty she traveled over 40 miles to find help. Recognizing that many addicted persons have no means to duplicate her effort, she made a vow to help those less fortunate people if she herself survived. This vow lead her to start of a lifestyles recovery ministry. She set up group and individual counseling for those who needed help. She was in effect the lone counselor. Tirelessly for thirteen years without compensation and little financial support, Ms. London gave her time and resources to make this effort a success. This effort did not go unnoticed, and slowly some support from the community started to emerge.
After thirteen years, the idea emerged of starting an organization that was not church connected, but oriented toward the whole community. This organization would serve a more diverse client base. The organization would follow the same successful model as Lifestyles Ministries, broaden the client base and venture into other areas of need in the community. Thus was born Lifestyles Recovery Center, Inc. With lots of help from the board members, the organization was incorporated in February of 2001. An office was secured and the work began. From the beginning the goal has been to help free of charge those who are often the most vulnerable and neglected in our community. The actions that have been carried out to date have contributed to the accomplishment of that original goal.
Lifestyles Recovery Center is a 501c(3) non-profit corporation that deals with the problems of drug and alcohol addiction and anger management.
